Self-Portrait

2022 | 42" x 24" | Magazine Paper, Gouache, Paint Markers, Graphite on Illustration Board

This project is supposed to represent the absurdity of my mind and personality.

The eyes represent an opinion I have held for years about the feeling of being perceived, observed, and watched. I often struggle with identity and the idea that how I feel, think, and act is not how the public perceives me. The viewer should feel as if I am staring into their soul with my eyes and the eyes surrounding me, picking apart their identity.

I have used many mediums to represent how scrambled my mind is, and my love for many art mediums. I decided to use graphite for the faces to allow the eyes of each subject to stand out against the pencil markings. The concept is near and dear to my heart and the execution is meaningful in many ways as well.
