Bathroom Signs
2022 | 8” x 5” | Screenprint on Plastic
This series of prints critiques societal arguments against allowing trans people to use bathrooms that align with their gender identity. It also highlights the lack of inclusive bathrooms for non-binary individuals.
The "MEN" and "WOMEN" signs, represented by a penis and vagina, reflect the reductive way society often equates gender identity with physical anatomy. These symbols emphasize the problematic focus on genitals when debating trans people’s right to use gender-affirming spaces.
The "Fat" sign introduces humor while addressing accessibility issues, particularly for fat people. By including labels I identify with, it adds a personal layer to the commentary and invites viewers to consider how public spaces often exclude various identities.
Together, these prints challenge viewers to question the societal norms and biases that shape the accessibility and inclusivity of public spaces, particularly bathrooms.
